Title : Reunited
Format : 35mm
Location : England and Germany
Artist : Jess Summerson

When I set off on my Ibiza adventure working as a photographer for Resident Advisor, I had to leave one very important thing behind. My Nikon FG-20! This little trouper has been with me for a very long time and to have a summer apart was heartbreaking. So upon my return I finished the remaining film, then treated myself to two rolls of black and white. Above are some of the results, I have yet to finish the new films, but will be sure to show you when I do.

Ibiza

So as the summer draws to an end, I have finally found some time to sit down and add a few images to my blog.

I have been living in Ibiza for the summer, working as a free lance photographer for Resident Advisor. A very demanding and time consuming job, but incredibly enjoyable too.

The images I have chosen are just some snippets of my time here, when I have managed to step away from the clubs and take some time out to myself. There are plenty more to come, so as the season   finishes up expect to see some more!

Be sure to check their Facebook page....they've got some treats lined up for the summer!

Appreciating others - Part V

The last post of the week is left, so

Friday presents to you Tom Wright

Tom Wright is a professional graphic designer and is the creative talent behind Two Step Design. Tom has been working in the industry for over a decade and has developed an extremely sharp and polished style.

Tom works across the board in graphic design but shows particular passion towards album artwork and the advertising of music events. His work is always flawless and every possible detail has been finished with impeccable attention. It is his poster and album artwork designs that show a particular style and personality that is very unique. The designs are very clean and always have a strong, simple font surrounded by a complex yet subtle picture. The finished look is astounding and everything on the page works so perfectly together. His use of colour, imagery, typeface and arrangement is second to none.

So go and take a look at his designs and show your support to the young British talent around us.

Appreciating others - Part IIII

So for the beginning of a four day weekend for many...

Thursday presents to you Hazel Castle

This young talent, Hazel Castle, is an astounding illustrator. She studied at Birmingham University, completing a degree in Illustration. Hazel is currently revamping her website, so her work can be seen on her blog and Flickr account.

Hazel's work is very elegant and evocative. Hazel often chooses to draw the female form and with her skills, she creates images that are very detailed and full of texture. She sketches her subjects in pencil, then adds blocks of colour, striking prints or text digitally. The end result is a wonderful arrangement of traditional portraits mixed with a contemporary influence

So go and take a look at her work and show your support to the young British talent around us.

Appreciating others - Part III

Wednesday presents to you  Lara Parsons

Lara Parsons is the talent behind Parsnips Photography. This young photographer is another British talent, who is currently residing in Canada. Lara has been travelling the world for over a year now and has been documenting it every step of the way.

Her photography lies in the boundaries of Fine Art and Fashion Photography but often spills over to expose her journey through life. The unobtrusive style of her Fine Art imagery often uses moody tones with striking contrasts, but still maintains an overall feeling of warmth.

So go and take a look around her website and show your support to the young British talent around us.

Appreciating others - Part II

So continuing with the smorgasbord of creative talent I know...

Tuesday presents to you Ismay Ozga

Ismay Ozga is a multi-disciplined, female artist. She went to Birmingham City University where she studied Fine Art, but has used her creative talents across the board. Not only is she an accomplished illustrator, she is also a wonderful photographer and half of the jewellery company, Paper and Chain, who were featured in my blog back in February.

Ismay's work has a very honest and personal feel to it. Her delicate pencil illustrations often feature the female form and are heavily influenced by fashion. Her breathtaking photography is mostly shot on 35mm film giving it a nostalgic and raw quality, which I feel adds to the almost auto biographical narrative of her images.

So go and take a look at her website and show your support to the young British talent around us.

Monday 2 April 2012

Taking the time to appreciate others...

All this week I will be posting to you the delights of creative and talented souls that I personally know.

Monday we begin with James Uren.

James Uren is a young designer who studied Contemporary Furniture and Product Design at Buckinghamshire New University. He completed his degree with an impressive first and was listed as the runner up for BDC's New Designer of the year. His fresh and ultra-modern approach to furniture design is very much worth a look. The collection represents the clean and contemporary living style that so many have adopted or look to achieve in their home.

So go and take a look and show your support to the young British talent around us.

Title: Coffee Triptych
Format: 35mm
Location: Brighton
Artist: Jess Summerson

It's been a very busy fourteen days for myself and I couldn't bear the thought of not posting this week. So just in the nick of time....here it is!!

These photographs were taken with my lovely Nikon FG20 on 35mm film, my favourite format. Over four years old, I couldn't let them sit hidden on my computer any longer.

Even though time has been running away with me of late, I always think it is important to stop and take a step back. Always remember to make time for yourself...

Onwards and Upwards!

Title : Yellow Shirt
Format : Digital
Location : Villefranche, France
Artist : Jess Summerson

Just the one image this week, but it is one of my favourites! I took this in a little village called Villefranche in the South of France. The village is a maze of steep cobbled streets, lined with colourful tall houses, all displaying their laundry and through their open windows, offering an insight into their lives.

My homemade Instagrams...

Title : Homemade Instagrams
Format : 35mm and Digital

Artist : Jess Summerson

So it has been a busy week for me in London, working in a photography studio. But now I am back, refreshed, focused and ready to post another little treat.
I absolutely love the Instagram and Hipstamatic photos that everyone is producing with their trusty iPhones. Unfortunately I don't have the funds to purchase one of these amazing little beauts, so decided to create my own versions of Instagrams with Photoshop.

The images I have selected illustrate my life over the past 15 months.
